HP LaserJet 4250

The HP LaserJet 4250 is a simple printer but that isnt all it is. It would be easy to sell it short because it looks nothing special, but its worth more than that, much more.
The build quality is just what we have come to expect from Hewlett Packard. Solid and simple with no bells and whistles. The construction feels reassuring and offers confidence in the longevity of the machine. Toner cartridges are replaced from the front and are easily extracted using the latches on each end. The monochrome cartridges are said to last for 12000 pages, with a high yield version that can cope with 20000. With a duty cycle of up to 200,000 pages a month, this printer is set to handle anything.

Prints are of sufficient for most office applications with the standard 600dpi. The prints appear after around 11 seconds and are produced at around 43 pages per minute. Text quality is great, with the edges coming out straight with no bleeding or blotches. Larger text areas of black were evenly spread, with no overprinting visible.

Installation is a breeze despite there being lots of packing material. The cartridges are already in place, its just a matter of removing the tape and setting up. Driver installation is straightforward and will have you up and running in no time. The CD contains all the tools you need to print a variety of documents, including offering the ability to watermark your prints.

The paper tray holds 500 sheets of paper, and there is room for a further 100 in the multi-purpose tray above. There is the option to expand paper handling by a further 500 if you purchase the additional paper tray. That and expandable memory are the two most popular upgrades for the 4250.

The small control panel on top is simple and to the point. There is a backlit LCD screen that shows the toner state, paper count, printing status and the usual information, with a couple of buttons. Most of the control of this device comes from the desktop tools as they are much more convenient to use.

The LaserJet 4250 is a good printer for those organizations who print quite a bit. The smooth and efficient operation makes it ideal for the home office or smaller workgroup and the quality prints makes it suitable for almost anywhere.

Canon ImageRunner 105

I bought the Canon ImageRunner 105 because it was a can-do machine. There wasnt anything it couldnt handle, at least according to the Canon Representative. Im glad to say that even a couple of years later I was proved right. This is a great, high duty cycle workhorse machine that hasnt let us down once so far.

I run a busy office that specializes in documentation so the fact that the ImageRunner 105 was one of the most powerful office machines ever is one of the things in its favor. It is a high volume printer, scanning, copying machine that can output full sized sheets at a jaw dropping 105 sheets per minute. Hence the 105 in the name, according to the rep anyway.

Each copy or print it produces is almost flawless. The quality is excellent, even when printing images. We all know photography isnt a lasers forte but this machine deals with them like nothing else I have seen. Not only does it print them at the same rate a text sheet is printed, but it appears incredibly detailed. A laser critic might look for artifacts, banding, fading and any other laser maladies, but you wont find them with the ImageRunner 105.

To help the machine work at peak capacity it includes a hard drive and built in image server. This allows us to load up print and copy jobs, up to 5 at a time and either schedule them or let the machine do its thing. You can also print, copy and scan over a network, and scan to email too. My workgroup is like a production powerhouse since we bought this.

Toner cartridges are just as geared towards productivity. A single cartridge can last up to 33,000 pages, but thats nothing compared to the drum which is rated to last a whopping 5,000,000 pages. I have never seen a life that long, in any machine I have worked with.

There were plenty of finishing options too, from hole punches to stapling and stacking. I got the saddle finisher so we could produce good quality booklets which is our main product.

I am very pleased with my ImageRunner 105, and wouldnt hesitate recommending it to someone who needed a hard-core document center. Its printing on an industrial scale, which is perfect for people like me.

OkiData C6100

The OkiData C6100 is a high definition color printer with great workgroup performance, where speed is important. It continues the Oki name and does it proud, performing well in every test we threw at it.

The C6100 is a good quality printer that works right out of the box. It is quite a bit cheaper than its main rival, the Dell 3110cn and prints better too. The C6100 prints text documents at a rate of 26 pages per minute, color and 32 monochrome at a standard 1200 x 600 dpi. This is faster than almost all the other printers in this price, and a definite plus point.

The standard paper tray can hold 300 sheets, while the multi-purpose drawer can add a further 100. There are optional extra drawers as others in this class seem to offer. There is also the option of adding duplexing, extra memory and a hard drive for secure printing. The four versions are the C6100n, the C6100dn with duplexer, C6100dtn with extra paper capacity and the C6100hdn with all the above and a 40Gb hard drive for larger jobs or secure printing. It is the same configuration as others in the Oki range, like the C6150 and C6200.

The small LCD screen is clear and informative with the control buttons on the right of it. The basic menu system is simple to navigate and should pose any problems to users. Once configured on a network, there is no real reason to use the screen as the Oki tools can take care of everything for you.

Being a network enabled device, the C6100 can be added to a workgroup or network quite easily. One nice touch was the ability to restrict color printing to certain users. This can save a significant amount of cash for offices that print a lot.

The Oki C6100 is a solid, good value printer. It is designed and built to produce business documents reliably all throughout the day. The prints are good quality and quick enough for most needs. It won’t satisfy a print heavy organization or a large office, but for what it’s meant for it performs very well.

Konica Minolta MagiColor 2400w

Our office has used the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2400w for the past four years. We got it new because it was cheap and we were surprised at how well it worked.

The first thing to say about it is that is looks cool with the blue top. It’s a nice addition to the office and adds a bit of color to the place. Everything else we have are just beige boxes, so the blue makes a nice change.

One of the things we were most worried about with this was whether it would cope with four of us and our printing requirements. The box isn’t that big, in fact to look at the printer looks like one you would have at home. It’s about the same size as a personal printer, and about the same weight.

I needn’t have worried though because it has coped with everything we could throw at it for the past four years and hasn’t stuttered once. Between us we print between 10 and 12000 sheets a month. The MagiColor 2400w can apparently cope with 35000, so that might be why.

Setting it up was easy. All we had to do was unpack it, undo all the restraining tape and plug it in. The cartridges were already installed so we didn’t even have to do that. It has a USB connection which we set up on one of the spare computers and everything worked perfectly once the drivers were installed. The drivers didn’t take too long either, the CD which was in the box does everything for you, it’s just a matter of telling it where to put the files. Once done, we could access the PC through our network and print like that.

It prints pretty quick too, black and white printing is the fastest, at around 20 pages per minute. Color was a bit slower at 5 pages per minute, but the prints were good quality though. We don’t print many photos, but when we do that come out pretty good. We used to use an inkjet for them, but with the MagiColor 2400w, we can just print them as normal now.

Text documents come out really clear especially when printing at normal size. Graphs and office images come out very clear, the colors in the graphs look exactly the same as they do on the screen. Photographs was the most surprising thing, they are really good for a laser printer. They come out better on this, than on the old inkjet.

I like the MagiColor 2400w, it works well in our office, cartridges are easy to change, and it just works. We don’t have to mess with anything, it just does what you want it to, when you want it to.

Canon Copier ImageClass MF3240

The Canon Copier ImageClass MF3240 is a well priced, well positioned piece of office hardware, ideal for the SOHO who wants multifunction capabilities without compromising on quality.

The Canon name is a reassuring one. A name synonymous with quality, enough so you can be confident in the quality of anything you buy from them. The MF3240 is a monochrome printer, scanner, copier and fax all in one. It can be connected to a computer via USB or it can act as a standalone copier. It needs a computer to get the most out of it and indeed that will be the use the majority of owners will put it to.

The MF3240 is designed to be quick, and at 21 pages per minute print speed, it doesn’t disappoint. It devoured our test document and it demonstrated its mettle quite adequately. Text was the highlight, with clear, sharp lines and an almost black fill that would serve well in any business document. Images and graphics were surprisingly good too. Well defined, shaded and almost as precise as the text. The test document we use has a mixture of text at different points, graphs, images and photographs to simulate a difficult business document the device might be asked to cope with.

The scanning and faxing functions are equally good, offering all the usual options such as resizing, multiple scans and faxes, phone book options, various quality levels, and quick operation.

There is no automatic document feeder which is a minor issue, but nothing that would spoil the enjoyment of this product. As the MF3240 is directed towards SOHO or home users it won’t impact anybody significantly.

The graphics quality and sharp text reproduction coupled with more than reasonable purchase price more than makes up for any shortcomings it may have. Running costs are impressively low too with the Canon single cartridge system. This is a system where the toner, drum and developer are all included in the single cartridge and is changed when the toner expires. This lowers maintenance costs and means less waste. A toner will cost $35 for 2500 pages worth of color.

The MF3240 is a worthwhile contender in the home multifunction market. It’s cheap enough to appeal and good enough to appeal to any small or home business who need to count every penny.

Samsung SCX 6545N MFP Review

While many people don’t consider printing necessity for their homes or work, some consumers may need to invest on this equipment, particularly for business purposes or for students who need to use the equipment for writing their academic papers. For users who want these printers but are on a budget, the Samsung SCX-6545N MFP offers the ideal solution, considering its multifunction features and price. As a product made by Samsung, this printer offers additional features for people looking for a good product to use. Pros Probably the most celebrated feature offered by Samsung SCX-6545N MFP is its multifunctional capability. Consumers certainly look for products that can do various tasks as it saves them time, space, and money. With this printer, people can get their documents printed, pictures scanned, and original documents duplicated whenever necessary. For other users, they take advantage of the optional fax feature if needed. Ever get tired of loud printer sounds that can fill your house with noise? You will absolutely find Samsung SCX-6545N MFP amazing in terms of this feature. Noise measured at standby mode is only 37dBA while printing and copying noise doesnt go over 60dBA. The dBA is a measuring unit for acceptable noise in the workplace. Another awesome feature offered by this printer is its wide LCD display. This gives you an idea of your printing task’s current status. It has touch-screen functionality for customizing settings. Samsung SCX-6545N MFP is a winner when it comes to pricing as it’s more affordable in comparison to other printer models available in the market today. Users of this printer can fully enjoy all its quality features that make them proud of this investment. Unlike inkjet cartridges, toners and drums for laser printers are more expensive. You have to shell out around $85 for a toner cartridge http://www.quikshiptoner.com/catalog/scx-6545n-toner and $152 for a drum cartridge http://www.quikshiptoner.com/catalog/scx-6545n-oem-drum. With the number of prints you can make from a single toner, however, your cost per print could go as a little as a few cents. Cons While the Samsung SCX-6545N MFP flaunts exceptional features, it also has its downsides like its design. Some users are particular in terms of design. This printer looks like a box and may not appear too presentable. Nevertheless, it is nothing fancy enough for other buyers to swoon over and buy in a heartbeat. However, if you’re simply looking for a printer, with design as your last priority, then you’ll find this perfect for your needs. As mentioned earlier, this printer has a wide LCD display with touch-screen functionality. While it can be simple to use, it has some features or functions that some people may find challenging to set up. Finally, Samsung SCX-6545N MFP runs with different Operating Systems (OS), but its list of supported OS doesn’t have the Windows 7 version, which can be a problem if a buyer has already a built-in Windows 7 OS.
